"People and Animals in a Caring Community"
More About Us
Mission

Pima Animal Care Center’s mission is to protect the public health and safety of the people and animals within Pima County.

Pima Animal Care Center is a part of the Field Health Services Division of the Pima County Health Department. The Health Department is an affiliate of the Integrated Health Care System.

The Center is organized into four major divisions, Enforcement, Animal Shelter, Licensing, and Public Relations/Education. The Pima Animal Care Center is located in Tucson with a substation in Ajo, Arizona.

Pima Animal Care Center occupies a unique position in the community, because it educates the public and enforces the law in two different but complementary aspects:

  • By protecting the public health and safety through enforcing the animal control laws and ordinances.
  • By protecting the animals through enforcing animal welfare and cruelty ordinances and sheltering abandoned animals.

Our Commitment

The Pima Animal Care Center staff is committed to provide the best level of services to the community, to protect the public health and safety, to mitigate the impact that companion animals have on our life style, and to protect the animals from abuse and neglect.

Here is the problem:
Though many people are responsible pet owners, some are not.
In an Average Year:

Approximately 18,000 animals are handled by the Pima Animal Care Center (stray, sick, injured).

Approximately 13,000 Animals are put to sleep.

Approximately 5,000 dead animals are picked up.

Approximately 3,000 bites are investigated.

Approximately 1,800 cruelty and neglect investigations are conducted.

Like the police officer on the beat and the nurse in the emergency room, the staff at PACC work hard to prevent suffering and save lives. They rescue the stranded, feed the hungry, and shelter the homeless.
They help make our community better for everyone.
Animal Care Officers are highly trained professionals who know how to handle sick, injured and unwanted animals that are a direct result of owner irresponsibility.
